                Catherine Likhuta (Australia-Ukraine 1981)

I decided to post something different this week. Catherine Likhuta is an Australian composer, pianist, and recording artist. We can feel her passion for music through her compositions, especially the rhythm variety and the various timbre effect.Catherine's work has been performed in the United States, Europe, Australia, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil.

From my perspective, women in the music industry are still sexualized today, as with any industry with public figures. From musicians to movie stars to even politicians, we live in and day and age where women are openly sexualized all around us in our day-to-day life, from ads to shows to movies. Women often used visual rather than aural effects during the sets; it is essential to note that they were talented. The sexualization of musicians, both in the 1930s and today, shouldn't denote people from recognizing the hard work and talent that men and women put into being performers and being at the top of the profession.

Here are Horn Ensemble's works by Catherine Likhuta.

Hard to Argue-Concertino for five horns (2014)

Length: 11:52

Fanfare for eight Horn

length:1:15

Bad Neighbours

(2017) is a 13-minute chamber concerto for two horn soloists and horn quartet

  1. I appreciate you talking and showcasing women writing for brass. I agree with your comments about women. I think we have a duty as modern musicians to continue working to advance the work of all composers, but especially those of women. I want to thank you for introducing me to this composer so that I can continue looking for her music in the future.
